When you think of cool city-break destinations, cities such as London, Paris and Barcelona are the obvious that spring to mind. There are, however, many good reasons why Copenhagen should be added to the list. We can only agree - lively, compact and brimming with unpretentious cosmopolitan atmosphere, Copenhagen has become a popular destination for trendsetters world-wide. Exciting new art and culture venues pop up everywhere and the capitals flourishing restaurants and hip nightlife offers a wealth of possibilities for everyone. From chic designer cafés and bars to exclusive nightclubs, the city is a maze of surprises. And it takes less than two hours to get there.
Copenhagen is undoubtedly a heaven for the quality conscious gay traveller. With the special Danish open-mindedness and the laid-back attitude of the Copenhagen citizens- added to the fact that most Danes speak really good English - you feel instantly at home. Politically Denmark is one of the gay-friendliest nations in the world. As the first country in the world, Denmark began recognizing same-sex marriages in 1989, and in 1999 it legalised adoption by gay parents. This mentality has made Copenhagen a historically tolerant and relaxed capital - in Copenhagen you are never made to feel like an outsider. And although the city has so much to offer, everything is close at hand. Centred on the bohemian "Soho" like area of the old town, the city's gay scene seems almost geographically designed to provide virtually the entire spectrum of entertainment and fun within a square kilometre. Copenhagen is easily connected to Malmo, southern Sweden. You can be there within less than 45 minutes. Much smaller than Copenhagen, Malmo has lots to offer, fabulous cafes, bars, shops and parks. A visit to the Turning Torso is a must if you are looking for modern architecture. This building is next to Western Harbour, Malmö's newest city district. Attracting people with its exciting architecture, lovely beach promenades and green spaces and a fabulous view over Öresund.
